The Ferrero Rocher nutrition label sold in the US comes in two versions that look like they disagree. The bag and gift box panels count a serving as 2 pieces (25 grams) at 150 calories. The 3 Piece Pack panel counts 1 package (38 grams) at 230 calories. Both panels sit on product pages run by Ferrero U.S.A., both describe the same hazelnut praline, and neither one is a typo: they report the same food on two different serving bases.

Short answer on the Ferrero Rocher nutrition label: one piece weighs 25 grams / 2 = 12.5 grams and carries 150 calories / 2 = 75 calories, worked out from the US bag and gift box panel. That panel counts a serving as 2 pieces weighing 25 grams, with 150 calories, 11 grams of total fat (3.5 of them saturated), 12 grams of total carbohydrate including 1 gram of dietary fiber, 10 grams of total sugars (9 of them added), 2 grams of protein and 15 milligrams of sodium. The single-serving 3 Piece Pack is labeled as one package of 38 grams with 230 calories, the same praline counted on a heavier base.

Ferrero U.S.A. prints the same 2-piece panel on its 8 Piece Bag page, its 12 Piece Gift Box page and its 24 Piece Gift Box page. The table gives every row of that panel, with a last column that divides each main row by 2 for a single piece.

The 3 Piece Pack page carries a different panel, because the whole pack is the serving. Its figures are larger only because the base is larger: 38 grams against 25 grams.

Never copy one column into a food log under the other heading. A log entry reading “1 serving” of Ferrero Rocher can mean 150 calories or 230 calories, and an entry that does not state its base cannot be checked.

Why the gift boxes say 2 pieces and the 3 Piece Pack says 1 package

Detail view of why the gift boxes say 2 pieces and the 3 Piece Pack says 1 package

US serving sizes are tied to reference amounts set in federal labeling rules, whose text the Legal Information Institute at Cornell Law School publishes. In 21 CFR 101.12, the category “All other candies” has a reference amount of 30 grams, to be declared as a number of pieces and their weight.

The next step comes from 21 CFR 101.9, paragraph (b)(2)(i), which reads: “If a unit weighs 50 percent or less of the reference amount, the serving size shall be the number of whole units that most closely approximates the reference amount.”

Applied to Ferrero’s own weights, the arithmetic runs like this:

  • The bag weighs 100 grams for its pieces, and 100 grams / 8 = 12.5 grams per piece, the same weight the box serving implies.
  • That piece is 12.5 / 30 x 100 = 41.7 percent of the reference amount, under the 50 percent line, so the serving is a whole number of pieces.
  • Two pieces weigh 25 grams, so against the 30 gram reference amount they fall 30 – 25 = 5 grams short. Three pieces weigh 12.5 x 3 = 37.5 grams. Against the same 30 gram reference amount, three pieces come to 12.5 x 3 – 30 = 7.5 grams over. Two pieces sit closer, so the serving is 2 pieces.

The 3 Piece Pack falls under paragraph (b)(6) instead: a product “packaged and sold individually that contains less than 200 percent of the applicable reference amount must be considered to be a single-serving container”. The pack weighs 38 grams, and 38 / 30 x 100 = 126.7 percent of the reference amount, so the whole pack is one serving. Applied to these weights, the rule gives both serving sizes; no Ferrero page consulted here explains how its panels were set.

The same rules account for a small mismatch. Three pieces at the box rate come to 150 calories / 2 x 3 = 225 calories, yet the pack prints 230 calories. The box panel works out to 150 calories / 25 grams = 6 calories per gram. At that rate the pack gives 38 x 6 = 228 calories. Paragraph (c)(1) rounds label calories “to the nearest 5-calorie increment up to and including 50 calories, and 10-calorie increment above 50 calories”, which is consistent with the pack reading 230 rather than 225.

Sugar and rounding inside a single Ferrero Rocher piece

Detail view of sugar and rounding inside a single Ferrero Rocher piece

No Ferrero panel prints a per-piece column, so every per-piece value in the first table is a division, not a label figure. Rounding carries straight through that division. The fiber row shows it best: 1 gram / 2 = 0.5 grams of fiber per piece. The printed 1 gram is itself rounded, so the true amount in one piece can sit either side of the result.

On the box panel, 10 grams / 2 = 5 grams of total sugars per piece. The added sugars row gives 9 grams / 2 = 4.5 grams per piece. The 3 Piece Pack lists 15 grams of total sugars and 13 grams of added sugars for its three pieces, in line with the box panel once its extra weight and the rounding are allowed for.

Added sugars on each panel, against the 50 gram Daily Value

Detail view of added sugars on each panel, against the 50 gram Daily Value

The US panel lists total sugars first and added sugars under it, and only the added sugars row carries a percent Daily Value. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sets that reference: its page on added sugars on the Nutrition Facts label states that “The Daily Value for added sugars is 50 grams per day based on a 2,000 calorie daily diet.”

  • 2 pieces (25 grams): 9 grams of added sugars, printed as 18% of the Daily Value. Checked: 9 grams / 50 grams x 100 = 18 percent.
  • 1 package (38 grams): 13 grams of added sugars, printed as 26% of the Daily Value. Checked: 13 grams / 50 grams x 100 = 26 percent.

On both panels added sugars make up most of the total sugars row: 9 of the 10 grams on the box panel, 13 of the 15 grams on the pack. This desk reads those percentages off the label and gives no dietary advice.

US panel vs UK label per 100 grams, and the carbohydrate gap

A reader in the UK, or anyone holding an imported box, sees a different format. Ferrero UK publishes its nutrition declaration per 100 grams on its Pack With 3 Pieces page, with energy in two units and salt instead of sodium.

UK nutrition declaration, Pack With 3 Pieces: per 100 g
NutrientPer 100 g
Energy2506 kJ / 603 kcal
Fat42.7 g
of which saturates14.1 g
Carbohydrates44.4 g
of which sugars39.9 g
Protein8.2 g
Salt0.153 g
Fibrenot declared on this page

The UK label gives 0.153 grams of salt per 100 grams and no sodium figure. Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, Annex I, published by The National Archives on legislation.gov.uk, defines salt as “the salt equivalent content calculated using the formula: salt = sodium x 2,5”, so sodium is salt divided by 2.5. Converted: 0.153 / 2.5 x 1000 = 61.2 milligrams of sodium per 100 grams.

To put the US panel on the same base, scale the 25 gram serving to 100 grams by multiplying every row by 4, since 25 x 4 = 100. For calories, 150 x 4 = 600 calories.

Per 100 g: US 2-piece panel x 4 against the UK label
NutrientUS panel x 4UK label
Energy150 x 4 = 600 calories603 kcal
Fat11 x 4 = 44 g42.7 g
Saturated fat3.5 x 4 = 14 g14.1 g
Carbohydrate12 x 4 = 48 g44.4 g
Sugars10 x 4 = 40 g39.9 g
Protein2 x 4 = 8 g8.2 g
Sodium15 x 4 = 60 mg0.153 / 2.5 x 1000 = 61.2 mg
Fiber1 x 4 = 4 gnot declared

Energy, saturated fat, sugars, protein and sodium agree within label rounding, and fat is close. Carbohydrate is not: 12 grams x 4 = 48 grams on the US side, against 44.4 grams on the UK label. The two systems define the row differently. Under 21 CFR 101.9, paragraph (c)(6), “Total carbohydrate content shall be calculated by subtraction of the sum of the crude protein, total fat, moisture, and ash from the total weight of the food”, which leaves dietary fiber inside the US figure.

Annex I of the EU regulation defines carbohydrate as “any carbohydrate which is metabolised by humans, and includes polyols”. The scaled US panel carries 1 gram x 4 = 4 grams of fiber. Adding that to the UK figure gives 44.4 + 4 = 48.4, close to the US figure. That fit is an interpretation of the two definitions, not a statement from Ferrero. Calories and sugar in a whole box of Ferrero Rocher

Ferrero U.S.A. lists the box weights on its product pages: the 8 Piece Bag is 3.5 ounces (100 grams), the 12 Piece Gift Box is 5.3 ounces (150 grams) and the 24 Piece Gift Box is 10.6 ounces (300 grams). All three carry the 2 pieces (25 grams) panel shown above.

The number of servings is the piece count divided by 2, and the box weight gives the same count. For the largest box, 300 grams / 25 grams = 12 servings. Its calories come to 12 servings x 150 calories = 1,800 calories. Its total sugars come to 12 servings x 10 grams = 120 grams. Every row of the table follows the same method.

Which serving size applies to the pack in your hand

A product web page may not reproduce the printed wrapper exactly. Ferrero U.S.A. sells a 3 Piece Holiday Pack (1.3oz), and its page shows “Serving Size: 2 pieces (25g)”. The regular 3 Piece Pack, listed at the same 1.3oz (38g), shows 1 package (38 grams).

By the single-serving rule quoted above, a pack of three pieces at that weight, sold on its own, would be expected to carry a one-serving label. The holiday page may simply reuse the box panel. That is a hypothesis: the printed holiday wrapper was not available to this desk.

The practical check takes seconds. Read the serving size line first. If it says 2 pieces, every number on the panel covers two pralines; if it says 1 package, it covers the whole pack. Recipes and labels can change without notice, so the panel printed on the pack in hand wins over any web page, this one included. For another panel on this site, see our Pop-Tarts label breakdown.

Ferrero Rocher vs Ferrero Collection on the same 30 grams

The comparison chosen here has an official US panel and comes from the same maker. The Ferrero Collection 3 Piece Pack holds one Ferrero Rocher, one Raffaello and one Rondnoir, and its panel gives 180 calories for 1 package of 30 grams. Per gram, 180 calories / 30 grams = 6 calories per gram, the same rate as the box panel above.

Per 30 g: Ferrero Rocher scaled from 25 g, against the Collection label
NutrientFerrero Rocher, 30 gFerrero Collection, 30 g
Calories150 x 30 / 25 = 180180
Total fat11 x 30 / 25 = 13.2 g13 g
Saturated fat3.5 x 30 / 25 = 4.2 g6 g
Total sugars10 x 30 / 25 = 12 g12 g
Added sugars9 x 30 / 25 = 10.8 g10 g
Protein2 x 30 / 25 = 2.4 g2 g

Scaled to the same weight, the two packs match on calories and sugars. The row that separates them is saturated fat, printed as 6 grams and 30% of the Daily Value on the Collection panel. For Ferrero Rocher, 3.5 grams x 30 / 25 = 4.2 grams. The Collection label does not say which of its three pieces accounts for the difference.

Per piece the Collection looks lighter only because its pieces are smaller on average: 30 grams / 3 = 10 grams. An average piece therefore carries 180 calories / 3 = 60 calories. Scaling rounded label values moves each calculated figure by a few tenths of a gram. Other sweets read the same way sit in our Snacks & Sweets section.

US ingredients and allergens, with the UK proportions

The 3 Piece Pack page prints the US ingredient list as: “Milk Chocolate (Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Skim Milk Powder, Butteroil, Soy Lecithin as Emulsifier, Vanillin: An Artificial Flavor), Hazelnuts, Sugar, Palm Oil, Wheat Flour, Whey, Lowfat Cocoa Powder, Soy Lecithin as Emulsifier, Sodium Bicarbonate as Leavening Agent, Salt, Vanillin: An Artificial Flavor.”

The allergen statement that follows reads: “Contains Tree Nuts (Hazelnuts), Wheat, Milk, Soy.” For allergies, the statement printed on the pack being bought is the one that applies, since labels can change.

The US list gives no proportions. The list on the Ferrero UK page does: it opens with “Milk Chocolate 30%” and later declares “Hazelnuts (28.5%)”. Its wording also differs in places, with “Skimmed Milk Powder” and “Emulsifier: Lecithins (Soya)” where the US list has skim milk powder and soy lecithin.

Three Ferrero Rocher labels checked against each other

The 2-piece panel, the 3 Piece Pack panel and the UK label never share a base, so on their face they cannot be compared. Brought down to the same unit, they can.

  • Calories per piece: 150 / 2 = 75 calories on the 2-piece panel, 230 / 3 = 76.7 calories on the 3 Piece Pack panel, and 6.03 x 12.5 = 75.4 kcal from the UK label.
  • Energy per gram: 150 / 25 = 6 calories per gram, 230 / 38 = 6.05 calories per gram, and 603 / 100 = 6.03 kcal per gram. Three bases, one density: none of these panels is a per 100 gram figure misread as a serving, and none describes a different recipe on energy alone.
  • Added sugars per gram of product: 9 / 25 = 0.36 grams on the 2-piece panel and 13 / 38 = 0.34 grams on the 3 Piece Pack panel, a gap small enough to come from label rounding.
  • Calories from added sugars, at 4 calories per gram: 9 x 4 = 36 calories of the 150 calories on the 2-piece panel, and 13 x 4 = 52 calories of the 230 calories on the 3 Piece Pack panel.

The spread between the three per-piece figures stays under 2 calories, which is what rounding to the nearest 10 calories on the label can produce by itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Grand Ferrero Rocher the same as a Ferrero Rocher?

No. Ferrero U.S.A. describes Grand Ferrero Rocher Milk as a milk chocolate and hazelnut hollow ornament with 4 Ferrero Rocher chocolates inside. It carries its own Nutrition Facts panel on its own serving base, so its numbers describe the ornament product, not a single praline taken from a box.

Is Ferrero Rocher gluten-free?

The US label gives no basis for calling it gluten-free. Wheat Flour is one of the listed ingredients, and the allergen statement names Wheat alongside tree nuts, milk and soy. This desk only reads the label and makes no medical claim; the statement printed on the pack in hand is the one that applies to that pack.

Where do these Ferrero Rocher figures come from?

Every label value on this page was read off Ferrero U.S.A. and Ferrero UK product pages, and the rule quotes come from the federal and EU texts linked above. Nothing was weighed, tasted or analyzed. The pages were read at the time of writing; labels change, and the printed panel on the pack prevails.
